Face Your Inner Critic
This is a guided visualization exercise.
Take a deep breath in, then exhale slowly. Feel your body settle into the present moment. Now, imagine yourself standing in a wide, open room—a creative space that is uniquely yours. The walls are decorated with colors, symbols, and images that inspire you.
This is your sanctuary, your creative haven.
But as you start to work on your project, you notice that you’re not alone. Surrounding you are towering giants—shadowy figures that loom over your space. Each one represents a different barrier that holds you back: self-doubt, fear of failure, imposter syndrome, perfectionism, the echoes of negative voices you’ve heard throughout your life.
They circle around you, whispering things like “You’re not good enough,” “Who do you think you are?” and “No one will care about what you create.”
These giants stand tall, arms crossed, smirking as they watch you struggle. They try to take up space in your mind, making you second-guess every idea, every brushstroke, every word.
But today is different.
Today, you’ve had enough.
Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, feel a surge of energy and determination rise from your core. This energy starts in your heart, radiates out through your chest, and moves down into your legs, grounding you with strength. You’re ready to stand up to these giants—not with fear, but with power.
One by one, turn and face each giant. Lock eyes with them and name them for what they are: “Self-Doubt,” “Fear,” “Perfectionism,” “Imposter Syndrome.”
You can see them clearly now—they’re not as imposing as they once seemed. They’re made of thin smoke and shadows, not solid stone.
Now, feel the strength in your legs and imagine yourself taking a strong, confident stance. Visualize yourself winding up, like a soccer player about to kick a ball. Feel your foot connect solidly with each giant, one by one. As you kick, watch them fly out of your space, dissipating into thin air. With each powerful kick, the taunts get quieter and quieter until they vanish completely.
Notice how much lighter the room feels with each giant gone. The space is opening up. The colors on the walls are brighter. The air is fresher. You’re left with nothing but your own energy and creativity—no distractions, no negativity, no limiting voices. You have reclaimed your space.
Take a moment to breathe deeply, letting this feeling of freedom and clarity fill every part of you. In this moment, you are fully in control of your creative process. There’s nothing standing in your way. The whispers are gone. The giants have been evicted.
Now, turn your attention back to your creative work. Feel your hands ready to create, your mind clear, and your spirit energized. You have the space, the freedom, and the confidence to express yourself fully.
When you’re ready, return to the present moment.
You’ve kicked those giants out, and they’re not welcome back.
This space belongs to you—your ideas, your voice, your vision.
